Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho said Wednesday he does not believe the record- shattering 222 million euro (USD 260 million) transfer fee Paris St Germain are willing to pay for Neymar is expensive.
Neymar is on the brink of an incredible departure from Barcelona in a transfer that will shatter the previous record set by United last year when they brought Paul Pogba back to Old Trafford by paying Juventus €105m (£89.3m).
'Expensive are the ones who get into a certain level without a certain quality. For £200m, I don't think Neymar is expensive.
'I think he is expensive (in) the fact that now you are going to have more players at £100m, you are going have more players at £80m and more players at £60m.
But the Reds boss, speaking after his side beat Sampdoria 2-1 in Dublin in a pre-season friendly, is concerned how the staggering figure will affect future transfers.
'So I think the problem is not Neymar, I think the problem is the consequences of Neymar'. "He wins a European cup and wants to celebrate with his team", Mourinho said. It's very hard to control a player in this situation and UEFA should consider this.
However, while Mourinho insists that Neymar represents value for money, he feels that there will now be problems for the rest of Europe when they look to make a major signing.
"So I think the problem is not Neymar, I think the problem is the consequences of Neymar".
